Crazy Love

I've been readying crazy love lately. But I've been stuck on a chapter for a few days. The chapter is all about being Lukewarm. It's been overwhelming, convicting, and challenging all at the same time. Chan writes in an easy way for the reader to connect with. Plus they got some videos on a website to go with the book. Interactive reading!

Just for fun....and a way to stay warm at night.

You gotta love commercials at Christmas time. Last year JC Penny's ran and website called Beware of the Dog House. It show'd men being stupid for the thoughtless gifts they gave to their spouses. This year they are back. Return to the Doghouse. Enter at your own risk.

Ownership

I recently had my bags "temporally" lost from the Airlines. In the process to get them back I was lied to twice. So I sent a message to the airlines regarding this matter, asking for someone to take ownership of the lies and not blame it on something else. We live in a culture of pass the buck. Accountability is lost. Hopefully they will own up to this. Look to future posts for their response.

Fasting

I've been on a 40 day fast from TV, Movies, and Video Games. I challenged by the number of movie lines I can quote verses the number of scripture passages. Slap in the face. I love God, but don't quote him enough. So I put aside the media, even blogging to focus on that relationship. The first 2 weeks was like detox, or at least what I think it might be like, and a way reduced scale. I didn't know what to do with my time. Time I had time to do so many other things. Read my Bible, which i didn't do enough of. I finished 2 novels that I started years ago. Worked on projects around my house. Went to bed early. It was great. Now that the fast is over I'm going to reduce the time that I spent on those things. New goal for the year: Read through the entire Bible. I've never done this before. Totally pumped. I think I'm ready for it. Also going to read through the Gospels with the One year devotional on the Life of Jesus. So I'm back from my blog break.

Intersting don't you think?

Just read this article which I got from a retweet from Twitter. What do you guys think?

The Best and Worst of the Church

I just spent the last couple of days at Rob Bell’s conference for pastors and church staff called Poets, Prophets, and Preachers. The whole thing was awesome, and gave me a lot to think about. However, the most moving experience came at the very end.

We were about to take communion, and Rob announced that one of the people in attendence had just gotten a call that he’d been fired from his church for attending. There are some churches and denominations that take issue with Rob and others who take issue with Rob and other leaders of the “emergent church” movement. Which is fine. But they called him while he was there and told him he was fired for going. Ouch.

Obviously, there must have been pre-existing tensions between the two parties. Perhaps even an ideological feud that had been going on for who knows how long. But to fire someone over the phone, no questions asked, is pretty cold. I understand the fact that differences can sometimes be too big to overcome in a work, and especially church-work environment. But there had to be a better way to handle that.

With tears in his eyes, Rob announced that they were going to take an impromptu collection during communion, in order to help the guy and his family get through the next couple of months. A beautiful gesture of support and solidarity.

By the time I reached it, the basket was brimming full of money, and on the top of it I saw a check for $350. I instantly choked up, thinking of how God was already providing for this person because His people responded to a need.

In 20 minutes, I saw the best, and the worst of the church Earth.

What about you? What’s the best you’ve seen? What’s the worst?

Lesson

I'm back to teaching Junior High Sunday School this summer. Totally pumped. I'm one of those crazy's that love Jr. Highers. We usually us a standard curriculum for our classes. But this summer my goal is to write my own lessons again. This week I'm showing a clip from Spiderman 2 that talks about indecision.

Signs of the Times

My wife forwarded this article to me from the American Family Association. It is very disturbing, yet at the same time exciting. With the hopes of one day planting a church it is something that we need to be aware of. But awesome to be persecuted for what we believe.

If your interested in supporting the couple and really other Pastor's and churches you can sign this petition to show your support.
